ByRobot Skykick

As you may already know, this year’s CES (2018) was held in Las Vegas. Some of the best drones were announced and one of those drones is meant to be kicked! The Byrobot Skykick.

This drone comes from a Korean company and when I saw it being showcased, I couldn’t help take a second look – if you have kids, this is something you’re going to want to look into.

Quadcopter Inside a Ball

The Skykick is a quadcopter with a giant ball-shaped propeller guard. The difference between this and other drones is that it is able to withstand kicks … in fact, it’s meant to be kicked around and you can even hold it as if you were holding a basketball.

When I went to the Byrobot stand, I watched the representative kicking the soccer drone (lightly) and then start the quadcopter up as soon as it bounced from the floor.

The Byrobot Skykick has a 6-axis stabilization sensor, so it’s stable enough to be able to fly around, even after being kicked. After this, I watched the pilot fly the drone into a soccer goal that they had set up. Agreed, this was a prototype, but it was shown to be fully operable.

This drone comes with a 360 degree propeller guard, battery, controller and four additional propellers as spares.

The ByRobot Skykick is equipped with a pressure sensor, altitude hold, and has the ability to change colors with its’seven LEDs.

Maximum Range

This drone can fly a maximum range of 330 feet (more than some of the other drones I saw).

Flight Time and Speed

The drone has a flying time of five minutes and can reach speeds of up to 19 mph, which is not bad. It’s a shame the flight time isn’t a bit longer, as five minutes goes by so fast, but it is what it is.

The drone weighs 65 grams without the 400 mAh battery. Dimensions are 7.87” x 7.87” x 7.08.

The drone has a hoop that you can purchase separately. The hoop was created to be used as a goal in a new sports concept. With the hoop, you can play a game of soccer with two teams of five drones. The sport is called “Drone Soccer” and combines teamwork with flying techniques. It was created to be a spectator sport, and while kids will be able to participate in the sport, it’s also something adults will enjoy.

The ByRobot Skykick is something that stands out from the crowd. It is a drone that you can actually kick around. Not only this, but you can also participate in “Drone Soccer” using this drone and it looks as if drone soccer could be fun, even if you’re not a kid. Based on the fact that this is a unique drone with some pretty interesting features, I would definitely recommend this to anyone that likes something different.
